Top 10 Things to do Along the Eastern Shore
Top 10 things to do along the Eastern Shore
We’ve compiled a list of some of the best attractions and things to do along the Eastern Shore. The Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia runs from the edges of Halifax all the way to the shores of Cape Breton Island with our Nova Scotia Resort in the middle. The Eastern Shore is considered to be the nature lover’s destination with sandy beaches, great surfing locations, rugged coastline, wildlife, and history. The top 10 things to do listed below is a combination of what our guests like to do when they stay with us and what Nova Scotian’s know are the best places.
This is probably one of the most famous attractions in Nova Scotia. Located in Sherbrooke, this historic village is a look into life in 1860 and World War 1. There are over 80 historical buildings in this little village with 25 of them being open to the public. The economy of Sherbrooke was based on shipbuilding, lumbering, and gold mining. You will see horse drawn wagons, an up-and-down sawmill, wood turner’s shop, an old fashioned printers press, and much more. There are times when you can get into costume and live the way a pioneers once would have.

3. Clam Harbour Sandcastle and Sand Sculpture Contest
This annual festival is held at Clam Harbour Provincial park. See thousands of visitors come out to view the hundreds of sculptures that line the beach. These sandcastles are masterpieces.
4. 50- Mile yard sale
Every September in Musquodoboit Valley, a 50 kilometer stretch of road will be lined with bargains. We’re positive you will find some great deals. Meet some locals and bring home some local treasures.
5. Seaside Festival
Hosted by the Sheet Harbour Lion’s Club, this is a yearly festival not to be missed. It’s running from August 11-22 this year with a schedule filled with activities for everyone in the family. There is a beer garden, parade, car show , fun day, along with a daily schedule of activities.
6. Gold Mine Museum
What more can we say? The name is self-explanatory. We have a rich culture of gold mining here.
7. Fishermen’s Life Museum
Near to Halifax, Jeddore Oyster Pond is home to this museum. An old home from the 1800’s showcases the lives of fishermen and their stories about the land and sea.
8. Nova Scotia Lighthouse Interpretive Center
Nova Scotia is known for its many light houses. In Port Bickerton, just east of Liscombe Lodge, this museum exhibits maritime lighthouses and their importance as part of Nova Scotia’s history and tradition.
9. The Company Store
A great shopping opportunity for Nova Scotia crafts and souvenirs. This store is located in Sherbrooke Village and many of the crafts are made onsite. Some crafts made include weavings, pottery, and rosewater hand cream.
10. Halifax County Exhibition
Middle Musquodoboit is hosting the exhibition this year from Aug 18-21. Activities include a rodeo, ox and tractor pulls, and a children’s day.
There is so much more to do when visiting the Eastern Shore. You could spend days just being outdoors hiking, kayaking, surfing, and exploring. Like the rest of Nova Scotia, the Eastern Shore is rich in nature, culture, history, and festivals. It offers something for all members of the family.
