Top 10 Ways to be a Green Hotel Guest

Karen, our General Manager, and the rest of the team here try very hard to be environmentally friendly both personally and professionally. As global warming continues to increase, there is an ever present need to protect the environment. We try to be green and we need you to be a green hotel guest. We can do everything possible to be the greenest hotel in the world but without the assistance of our guests, our efforts will be thwarted. We wanted to make a list of 10 ways to be a green guest.

Here is our  top 10 list of things you can do to be a green hotel guest:

  1. Be sure to turn off the lights, TV, and air conditioner when you leave the room.
  2. Reuse towels and sheets by not having them changed everyday. We know this is obvious- it’s been practiced for years but we wanted to remind you :)
  3. Bring your own reusable mug, water bottle, pen, pencil, recycled notepads, etc.
  4. Take home your opened amenities and leave unopened ones in the room. If you leave opened ones in the room we have to throw them in the garbage.
  5. If you don’t need the brochures and tourist pamphlets, return them for other guests to use.
  6. Recycle your bottles, plastic, etc.
  7. Give us suggestions on how to improve. If we are doing a good job, thank us :)
  8. Walk to nearby attractions rather than taking your car if possible. *We know that the word ‘nearby’ is not normally associated with Liscombe Lodge since we are pretty remote, but you get the point right?
  9. If you having a buffet meal, try to reuse the same plate if you are going for seconds.
  10. When arriving by plane, consider carbon off setting and possibly taking less luggage with you. Do you really need to take 7 pairs of shoes with you? :P

This list is only scratching at the surface of what you can do to be a green guest but we hope this gets you thinking.

Stay tuned for our post on how we are being a green hotel. Please share your feedback and if you can think of more tips for guests and hoteliers, we would love to hear them. Just leave a comment on this post.

Happy Travels!
